Coconut water has long been a popular drink in the tropics. Green coconuts are used simply for the coconut water found inside. With high potassium and mineral content, coconut water helps the body recover from rigorous exercise.

To open, use a sharp knife with a hammer motion to cut down the outer husk then section out a center hole to access the juice. In young coconuts the juice may actually be under some pressure and will spray slightly when the inner husk is first penetrated. There should be a significant amount of liquid inside.
